Renee Carrel '84
Renee Carrel has held marketing management positions with Johnson & Johnson, John Hancock Financial Services and Fidelity Investments. She earned a B.A. from Hamilton College and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Renee currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Westminster School and is passionate about leveling the playing field for low-income students through her work with Horizons at Westminster, Covenant Prep School in Hartford and KIPP North Star Academy in Minneapolis. Renee and her husband, Mike, have two daughters who have attended Westminster, Lily ‘19 and Charlotte ‘21.
Julie Collins
Julie Collins joined Westminster School as the chief financial officer in 2018, following a 20-year career at Deerfield Academy. After serving as assistant controller for nine years and controller for five years, she was appointed director of business services where she was responsible for oversight of daily operations of the Finance Office. Julie managed Deerfield’s budgeting process; provided data, analysis and presentations; and oversaw auxiliary programs. She also collaborated with Deerfield’s operations team, including facilities, food service, human resources, information technology and security.
Before Deerfield, Julie spent six years as the manager of budget and decision support for Baystate Franklin Medical Center and six years in the audit division of Coopers & Lybrand. She started her career as a senior accountant for Derand Investment Company. Julie earned a B.S. in accounting from Boston College and certification as a C.P.A. Julie’s interests include running and volunteering as a board member at a community arts center.
Tom Earl
Tom Earl attended Colgate University, where he was named to the Division I All-American Hockey Team in his senior year. After graduation, he played professional hockey for seven years, the last five for the New England Whalers. While playing professional hockey, Earl earned his MBA from Boston University.
After retiring from professional hockey in 1977, Earl was appointed the chief financial officer and hockey coach at Westminster School. During his four decades leading Westminster’s Business Office, Earl transformed the school’s financial operations and oversaw the financial planning during the school’s extensive building phase, which included the Sherwin Health & Fitness Center, Armour Academic Center, the Kohn Squash Pavilion, Armstrong Dining Hall and five new student residences. Tom’s wife, Virgina, manages the Westminster school store and his four children are Westminster graduates (Lindsay ‘93, Luke ‘98, Margaret ‘03, David ‘07).
Since retiring from Westminster in 2018, Tom has been actively involved in the community, serving on the Board of Advisors for Horizons at Westminster, on the Simsbury Economic Development Commission and as the Vice Chair of the Simsbury Committee for Long-Term Economic Recovery.
Madeleine Ekholm
Madeleine Ekholm is the Chair of the Advisory Board for Horizons at Westminster and also serves on the Board of Trustees at Westminster School. Madeleine holds a B.A. in marketing and communications from IHM Business School in Sweden and has spent her career working in the financial industry. Madeleine and her husband, Borje, relocated to the U.S. in 1998 and have four children, Anna, Carl ‘19, Clara ‘20 and Julia.
Princess Hyatt
Ms. Hyatt is the Executive Director and Head of School at Grace Academy, an all-girls private school dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through education equity, access, and exposure! Through her work, she is enriching and empowering girls and women to pursue their intellectual pursuits with confidence and curiosity. As a born native, she serves Greater Hartford in a number of pursuits, including the Urban League of Greater Hartford, Leadership Greater Hartford's Quest Program and Executive Orientation, and CT Women's Council. She received her B.A. in English from Pine Manor College and her M.S. in Nonprofit Management from Bay Path University.
Eli Joseph
Eli Joseph grew up in Hartford and graduated from Hartford Public High School (HPHS). During his time at HPHS, Eli attended the Westminster Crossroads Learning Program that Todd and Mary Eckerson ran during the summer months. After attending the Kent School as a postgraduate student, Eli then headed off to Temple University on a full athletic scholarship. Upon graduation from college, Eli began his professional career in football, playing on five NFL teams: the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons and Calgary Stampeders. When a concussion ended his professional football career, Eli changed tact to other life goals. He returned to Hartford, a city that had been so important to him growing up, to work in the public schools and give back to the community. Today, Eli works as a behavior technician at Moylan School— his elementary school and, not coincidentally, the school with which Horizons at Westminster partners. Eli also works as a real estate agent with Weichert Realtors; he is a speaker and an author (The Book of Eli); and he volunteers enthusiastically in the Hartford Public School system.
Moy Ogilvie '86
Moy Ogilvie, a long-term member of the Westminster School Board of Trustees, is now board member emerita. She was honored in 2013 for her longtime service to Westminster by being presented with the Alan F. Brooks ’55 Distinguished Alumni Award. She has served as a class agent, a member of the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association, on reunion committees, as chair of the Faculty and Students Committee and as a member of the Committee on Trustees and the Strategic Planning Committee.
Moy is a partner in the law firm of McCarter & English in Hartford, where her main areas of practice are commercial litigation and product liability defense. Moy earned her B.A. in sociology with a minor in Spanish from Bowdoin College and her J.D. at Boston University School of Law. She lives in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
Shannon O'Shaughnessy
Shannon O'Shaughnessy serves as Westminster’s director of advancement operations and co-director of the Advancement Office. She has served the school's fundraising efforts since 2011 in a variety of capacities. Prior to joining Westminster, Shannon worked in advancement at Yale College and the University of Notre Dame. She also has several years of experience in book publishing, working as a literary agent with the Park Literary Group LLC and as an assistant at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates, both in New York City. Shannon holds a B.A. and M.F.A from the University of Notre Dame and M.I. from Rutgers University.
Amy Stevens
Amy Stevens is a recently-retired librarian and the advisor to the chapel program at Westminster School. In previous roles, she taught English and worked in the admissions office. Amy and her husband Scott, who teaches English and coaches at Westminster, have lived on campus for 35 years. They have three grown children who attended Westminster, and currently live with one lively dog, Remy.
Amy is thrilled to be involved with Horizons at Westminster. Horizons has been near and dear to her heart since joining the Stevens family as the program was dreamed up by her father-in-law, George Stevens, in 1964 while he was headmaster at New Canaan Country School (NCCS). According to Amy, the whole Stevens family knows how proud George would be to see the many talented teachers and staff involved in so many Horizons programs across the nation.
David White '72
Mr. White founded Coordinated Transportation Solutions, Inc. (CTS) in 1997 as a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation to promote coordination of transportation services for underserved individuals and communities. CTS is headquartered in Trumbull, CT. Dave has focused the efforts of the organization on Medicaid/Medicare non-emergency medical, veterans and special education transportation management services. CTS operates in eight (8) northeastern states.
Mr. White’s passion for public and non-emergency transportation is rooted in his education and work experiences. He is a 1972 graduate of Westminster, earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Washington and Jefferson College and a master’s degree in Public Administration from The American University. He was introduced to the field through his work at the United States Department of Transportation. Prior to founding CTS, he held leadership positions at several public and community transit agencies throughout Connecticut and with the New York City Transit Authority.
Mr. White has served on numerous not-for-profit boards and advisory groups and municipal commissions throughout his career.
Dave is a long-time resident of Milford, Connecticut and now divides his time at his second home in Rye, New Hampshire.
Elaine White
Elaine White comes to Westminster School from The Governor’s Academy, an independent boarding school in Byfield, Mass., where she has been a teacher, coach, advisor, and dorm parent. She also served in a variety of significant leadership positions at The Governor’s Academy including Chair of the English Department, Academic Dean, Interim Director of Advancement, and Assistant Head of School, with some of these responsibilities overlapping. In addition to managing multiple offices, she was the first female department chair in the school’s history, cultivated and stewarded donors for the school’s capital campaign, led a task force to design and implement a hybrid learning platform for the 2020-2021 academic year, facilitated the creation of a Learning Center, managed development and operation of the school’s advisory program and helped design a summer internship program for rising seniors. Elaine earned a B.A. in English at Bates College and an M.A. in English literature from Middlebury College. She and her husband, Chris, are the parents of three daughters: Emily, Maya, and Dani.
