Our Impact
Horizons at Westminster aims to support students and their families by instilling in them the joy of learning, the skills for success, and the inspiration to realize their dreams. We believe that every child in Hartford, regardless of background, should have the same chance at making a positive impact on their community. We accomplish this through a transformational, tuition-free, summer learning program that helps eliminate critical barriers to success that many of our children face, thus putting them on a path to:
Horizons at Westminster provides a free, academic and enrichment summer program that leverages a unique public-private school partnership to close opportunity gaps for students from Hartford.
- Horizons at Westminster delivers nearly 200 hours of academic instruction and enrichment each summer to 135 students from Hartford.
- Students are eligible to enroll after completing Grades K-7. (Grade 8 will be available in Summer 2025)
- Each class consists of 15 students, a lead teacher, an assistant teacher, and several student volunteers.

- Read proficiently by the end of third grade
- Achieve eighth grade math competency
- Build swimming skills and self-confidence
- Graduate from high school, college and career ready
Public-Private Partnership
Horizons at Westminster has joined with the Moylan School, a public elementary school in Hartford, to create a public-private education partnership that benefits students from Hartford who are at the greatest risk of falling behind. Horizons at Westminster works closely with teachers and administrators at Hartford Public Schools to recruit and support students and families throughout the year, sharing key assessment data and progress for each child. The goals of this partnership are to:
Horizons at Westminster operates under the 501(c)(3) status of Westminster School, with the school acting as the fiduciary agent. Horizons does not receive any direct financial support from Westminster School, but does receive substantial in-kind operational support, including administrative support, facility and equipment use, and supplies. Horizons at Westminster relies on raising funds independent of the school to cover staffing, programming, transportation, field trips and other costs.
