Our Program
Horizons at Westminster provides a free, academic and enrichment summer program that leverages a unique public-private school partnership to close opportunity gaps for students from Hartford. We work closely with our partners in Hartford Public Schools to identify and support students and families throughout the year, sharing key assessment data and progress for each child.
- Horizons at Westminster delivers nearly 200 hours of academic instruction and enrichment each summer to 150 students from Hartford.
- Students are eligible to enroll after completing Kindergarten and any time until their 8th grade year.
- Each class has a 4:1 student to staff ratio.
- Classes are led by a certified lead teacher, supported by a college-aged assistant teacher, and several high school student volunteers.
Our Mission
Rooted in long-term partnerships with students, families and schools, Horizons at Westminster advances educational equity and inspires the joy of learning for young people of Hartford.

“Horizons at Westminster is more than just a six-week summer program; it has become an essential partnership that supports our ELAMS students in growing socially, emotionally, and academically. Our children speak highly of the engaging experience, and the data confirms its positive impact on student learning. We are truly blessed to work with them and look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come.”
