Horizons at Westminster operates under the 501(c)(3) status of Westminster School, with the school acting as the fiduciary agent. Horizons does not receive any direct financial support from Westminster School, but does receive substantial in-kind operational support, including administrative support, facility and equipment use, and supplies. Horizons at Westminster relies on raising funds independent of the school to cover staffing, programming, transportation, field trips and other costs. We also benefit from community volunteers who support program initiatives.

Building a Sustainable Program

Horizons at Westminster is an independently-funded organization that serves Hartford-area students and operates on the campus of Westminster School. The generous financial support we receive from individuals, foundations and corporations is critical to the growth and long-term sustainability of Horizons at Westminster. Supplies

Providing Valuable Tools

School supplies and other essentials are always in high demand and make a significant difference in providing students with the tools they need for their educational journey. See below for a list of items that help our students succeed both in and out of the classroom.

• For the classroom: notebooks, pencils, erasers, crayons, glue, paint, writing paper, books (for K-8th graders)
• For other enrichment activities: board games, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, hula hoops, frisbees, basketballs, kickballs, nerf balls

Volunteering

Making a Difference

Volunteers are essential to the work we do at Horizons. Each summer, more than 80 Westminster students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and community members volunteer to work with our Horizons students. If you would like to do any of the following -- or have an idea of your own -- please reach out!

• Greet students as they arrive to Westminster in the morning or wave goodbye as they depart in the afternoon
• Eat breakfast or lunch at our family-style lunch tables
• Read your favorite book to a class
• Work one-on-one with a student in reading or math
• Jump into the pool and help our students learn to swim
• Drive a van and/or chaperone a field trip​ ​
